Mental Health Support Team in Schools

Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHST) are part of a national programme to reduce inequalities and increase access to mental health support for children and young people.  The MHST works with over 250 schools across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland including Kirby Muxloe Primary School.

The teams offer support to children and young people who are experiencing:

  • low mood
  • worry
  • anxiety and avoidance (eg simple phobias or separation anxiety)
  • sleep difficulties

NSPCC 

The NSPCC is a charity which works to support children and keep them safe. There is a parenting advice page on the website which gives advice on early parenting (babies) managing family life, including separating families and talking about difficult topics. It has sections on friends and relationships, this includes how to deal with bullying as well as online safety and how to support your child with depression, anxiety, self harm. The NSPCC helpline is available 10am-6pm Monday to Friday. If you think a child is in immediate danger, please call the police on 999 straight away.

Young minds 

Young minds website is full of advice and information to give young people the tools to look after their mental health. It empowers parents to be the best support they can be to the young persons in their lives. You can make contact by texting the shout line 24 hours a day.

Sunrise Wellbeing 

Sunrise Wellbeing therapy centre are a team of experienced therapists and holistic practitioners providing a hub of support through 1:1 and group sessions to children, young people and adults (in person and online). This is not a free service.

Childline 

Childline is a free online, on the phone, anytime support line for children to speak 1:1 to a counsellor about anything that is worrying them.

Mind

Mind is a mental health and wellbeing service, they have information for young people aged 11 -18 years when they are finding things hard. They are able to seek support for themselves or parent/carers or family members can seek advice on how to best support a child.

Health for Kids 

This site gives advice, guidance and signposting that you can use as a family to help support your child with mental health. It has information about self esteem, sleep, resilience, mindfulness and anxiety.

 

Anxiety UK

Anxiety UK helps to support people living with anxiety, stress and anxiety based depression. They offer a range of support services including their TAUK service which provides personalised support and information for anyone living with anxiety. This is not a free service.

Self Harm 

The Anna Freud site is designed to give export informed guidance to help school staff understand and promote children's mental health. It gives guidance on how to start a conversation with children and parents as well as information about specific conditions.
